1 John 2:12-14

12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

When John, the beloved apostle, wrote his first epistle, he used repetition to emphasize the message.  He repeats over and over again important points that he wants his brothers and sisters in Christ to remember.  As we see later in his epistle, his underlying message to us, to end time believers, is to focus on JESUS; and to remember some very important truths.  First, he wants us to remember that our sins are forgiven; the corruption within our inner most being is being taken care of; it was wiped out; it is being wiped out.  GOD is doing this.  Why? Because HE is kind, compassionate, and merciful; IT’S WHO HE IS.  He writes to the older men, the ones who have lived life and know the reality of the truth and who JESUS is and what he has done for THEM; they know from their life’s experiences-- who GOD is.  They know and John reminds them THAT THEY KNOW.  He reminds the young men, that in accepting JESUS as their savior, THEY HAVE OVERCOME THE EVIL ONE—SATAN; and not only have they overcome the devil, but now WE ARE STRONG; ours is a position of strength.  He reminds the young men, the ones who are involved in living life in this reality, that the reason we are strong is because the word of GOD abides within us; GOD IS IN US; we aren’t in this alone.  Finally, John constantly reminds us that those who have chosen to trust in JESUS, those who are born again—WE ARE GOD’S CHILDREN.  Talk about power.
