“SPREAD THE REBELLION”

These are the words that came out of the mouth of a young person this morning; this individual was participating in one of the “protests” occurring throughout the nation in the aftermath of the presidential election.  Now “protests” is probably not an accurate term to describe these phenomena; but this is what the media chooses to call them.  But in fact, they are “rebellions”.  I say that because that is what the people participating in these activities call them—REBELLION.  Who are they rebelling against; what are they rebelling against?

Think about this for a moment.  The election is over and the people of the nation have spoken by casting their ballots; their neighbors have spoken; their parents have spoken—the people have spoken and clearly expressed their wishes in regard to how they want to be governed.  But the individuals participating in the “calls for rebellion” will not accept this; their anger is palpable; it is visible; their contempt is oozing; self-control is not evident in their midst.

Something is working here.  Much of what we see happening involves young people, many of them are students; many of those calling for rebellion, are considered “educated”.  But wisdom seems to be missing; patience is not part of their makeup; peace is not part of their modus operandi.  We are seeing arrogance, disrespect and boorish behavior being carried to new heights.  We are seeing something emerging, something the apostle Paul succinctly described:

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened…….. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.  (Romans 1:21, 28-32)

Something is working here.  Let’s consider the last verse in this passage.  Does this describe the attitude that we are seeing here.  In the past several years, we have seen society turned upside down; what use to be considered wrong is now right; what was called good is now being pictured as evil.  We have made heroes out of individuals who, in past times, would have been considered thugs; and the media has led the applause and adoration.

So back to the question: what is working here?  If one is a believer, someone who does what JESUS has told us to do, that is, REMAIN IN HIS WORD, which basically means study and know His Word; which means—read your Bible and pray—anybody who does this will recognize what is happening.  Anyone who has followed JESUS’ advice to build on the solid rock, understands what is driving the storm.   GOD has told us that we are involved in a spiritual battle; something is battling to control our essential beings; something or someone is striving hard to control our souls and drive us to destruction.  We know this.  We also know that GOD loves us; in fact, He loves the whole world, even though the world hates Him.  He loves us so much, that He gave us His only Son, to shed His blood, to die for us—to clean us up on the inside.   Why?  SO WE CAN LIVE.  If an individual has done what GOD has told us to do, if anyone has built on the solid foundation, that person understands; that person knows—that GOD is in control.  The storm is raging; it’s going to keep on raging for a while.  But in the end—GOD is going to do what He said He was going to do.  I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED IN.
