When God Uses Visions
Some Christians feel they would be more obedient to God if they had direct guidance from Him, such as visions. In Acts, does God normally guide through visions? In what situations does He choose to use visions, and in what situations does He prefer other methods?
--Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch, Ananias and Sapphira, Peter and Cornelius, Paul on the road to Damascus, Paul's vision of a man in Macedonia: all of these were instances of the Holy Spirit's direct guidance or intervention. These were ground-breaking or milestone events that required people to do something they would not have ordinarily done. These are situations in which God required people to do something extraordinary.
--Peter's rescue from prison, Peter's recognition of what had happened in Cornelius' house: these were situations where individuals were given insight or understanding regarding what they were seeing happen around them. They were shown the reality of how God was working around them by the Spirit of Truth, aka the Holy Spirit. These were situations in which God wanted people to realize what He was doing.
